Valentino Beauty has never been a house content to rest on the laurels of its Born in Roma empire. With the Anatomy of Dreams collection, launched in 2024, the Italian maison has pursued a more rarefied, niche-adjacent vision—one that treats fragrance as an olfactory dreamscape rather than a simple commercial flanker. Rêve à Trois, the ninth entry in that collection, arrives in 2026 as a unisex eau de parfum that reads like a triptych: citrus and orris in the opening, rose and saffron at the heart, and an oud-vanilla base that lingers like a half-remembered dream. The name suggests a dream for three, or perhaps a dream in three parts, and the composition indeed unfolds in three distinct movements. Marketed by L'Oréal and currently a Selfridges exclusive in the UK, Rêve à Trois is not yet listed on Valentino's own site—a detail that lends it an air of insider access. Its note pyramid, confirmed by Selfridges and Parfumo, is deceptively familiar: Calabrian bergamot and an orris accord at the top; rose absolute and a saffron accord in the middle; oud accord, Madagascar Bourbon vanilla infusion, guaiac wood, and musk at the base. The accords—rose, oud, saffron, vanilla, woody, citrus, powdery—place it firmly in the rose-oud-saffron lineage, but the powdery orris and the vanilla infusion give it a softer, more contemplative character than the bombastic Middle Eastern-inspired oud compositions that dominate the genre. No perfumer is credited on any current listing. This is not unusual for Valentino's more experimental lines, where the house itself becomes the author. Yet the absence of a named nose does not diminish the composition's sophistication. Rêve à Trois is a fragrance that rewards patience: it opens bright and powdery, turns into a saffron-rose duet, and then settles into a woody, vanillic oud that feels both luxurious and intimate. For collectors of rose-oud fragrances, it is a worthy addition; for those who find the genre too heavy or medicinal, the powdery vanilla may offer a gentler entry point.
