Scent Journey
The first thirty minutes are a study in Italian citrus at full ripeness. Blood orange leads — fleshier and less acidic than the blonde variety, with a faint raspberry-tinged sweetness — supported by the bitter, green-edged bite of bigarade (bitter orange) and the softer, rounder glow of mandarin. Petitgrain, distilled from the leaves and twigs rather than the fruit, contributes a woody-green sap quality that keeps the opening from tipping into candy. The effect is effervescent and almost wet, like rind oil spraying into warm air.
Between one and two hours, the citrus recedes and the fragrance's true character emerges. A saline mineral accord — the signature of the La Riserva treatment — settles over the composition like sea fog. Basil and rosemary arrive as a paired herbal gesture: the basil sweet and slightly anisic, the rosemary camphoraceous and dry. Salt is the connective tissue here, muting the sweetness and lending the heart a distinctly coastal, almost rocky texture. This is the most original passage in the fragrance and the clearest argument for its existence.
From four hours onward, the composition turns inward. Ambrettolide — a vegetal musk prized for its soft, skin-like warmth — forms the bridge between the herbal heart and a base of suede and cedarwood. The suede is supple rather than animalic, more a texture than a statement. Cedarwood provides a dry, pencil-shaving verticality that holds the base in place without competing with it. The final hours are quiet, close, and unexpectedly elegant: a warm, faintly musky skin scent with a ghost of orange peel still clinging to it.
Performance Dashboard
6-8 hours on skin; noticeably longer on fabric, where the suede and cedar base can persist into a second day.
Moderate — roughly arm's length for the first two hours, then settling close to skin.
Moderate. It creates a personal aura rather than filling a room, which suits the genre.
When to Wear
Pros & Cons
- Exceptional quality of citrus materials — the blood orange and bigarade are vivid and natural-smelling
- The saline-mineral heart is genuinely original and distinguishes it from the original EDT
- Two-month maceration produces a noticeably smoother, more cohesive evolution
- Versatile, unisex, and office-appropriate without being bland
- The suede-ambrettolide drydown gives it an elegance rare in the summer citrus category
- Moderate projection and sillage — it stays close to the body
- Longevity of 6-8 hours is respectable but not outstanding for an EDP at this price
- The composition can feel thin in cold weather
- Premium pricing over the standard Arancia di Capri EDT may not suit everyone
- Those seeking a dramatic or complex fragrance will find it understated to a fault
Price & Value
“Fair value for what it is. If you already own and love the original EDT, the La Riserva is a worthwhile upgrade rather than a redundancy. If you are new to the line, this is arguably the better entry point.”
Reformulation History
No significant batch variations reported. As a 2025 release, the fragrance is still in its first production runs, and the extended maceration process is intended to standardize the profile across batches.

Layering Ideas
- Layer over Acqua di Parma Colonia to amplify the citrus opening and add a classical barbershop dimension.
- Pair with a single spray of a dry cedar or vetiver soliflore on the chest to extend the woody drydown into the evening.
- Combine with Mirto di Panarea for a greener, more herbal coastal effect — the two share a saline-mineral sensibility.
- For cooler evenings, layer with a light amber or vanilla base to give the musky finish more weight.
