Bvlgari Le Gemme Orom Review: A Masculine Vanilla-Oud Masterpiece

Sophie Labbé's 2022 creation blends Bourbon Vanilla, Siam Benzoin, and Agarwood for a balsamic, warm spicy experience.

Bvlgari’s Le Gemme collection is an ode to rare and precious stones, each fragrance capturing the essence of a different gem. In 2022, the maison added Orom, a scent named after a type of gold-rich ore, and entrusted its creation to master perfumer Sophie Labbé. The result is a scent that feels both molten and velvety – a deep, dark vanilla-oud that leans decisively masculine.

Orom is not your typical gourmand vanilla. Instead of sugary or lactonic tones, Labbé chose Bourbon Vanilla as the top note – a rich, spicy, almost woody vanilla absolute. This sets the stage for a heart of Siam Benzoin, a resinous balsam that adds a warm, incense-like sweetness. The base is anchored by Agarwood (Oud), but not the barnyard or medicinal kind; rather, a smoothed, almost creamy oud that integrates seamlessly with the vanilla and benzoin.

The fragrance is available only as an Eau de Parfum, housed in Bvlgari’s iconic faceted bottle that mimics a cut gemstone. With a price range of $300 to $610, Orom positions itself firmly in the luxury segment. But does the juice justify the cost? We put it through its paces to find out.
