Fugazzi Insimbi Oudh Review: Decadent Oud and Cocoa

Chocolate, truffle and oud collide in Fugazzi's boldest extrait yet.

By Vivir ·
Some fragrances announce themselves with a bright citrus fanfare. Fugazzi's Insimbi Oudh does not. It arrives the way a heavy velvet curtain falls, slowly, deliberately, and with the unmistakable weight of something expensive. The first spray is not a greeting so much as an entrance: a dim library in deep winter, beeswax candles guttering on a sideboard, a bar of bitter chocolate unwrapped on a mahogany desk, and beneath it all a resinous, faintly animal hum that could only be oud. Launched in 2026 and bottled as an extrait de parfum carrying between 30 and 50 percent perfume oil, Insimbi Oudh is Fugazzi at its most unapologetically maximalist. The house has never been shy about indulgence, but here it pushes into territory that feels almost edible. Chocolate and cedarwood open the composition; bergamot, cardamom, cocoa, butter and truffle form the heart; and the base settles into a cathedral of Akigalawood, osmanthus, oud, myrrh, frankincense, labdanum and geranium. That is a great deal of architecture for one bottle, and yet the result is not chaotic. It is symphonic, dark and deeply sensorial. This is not a fragrance for the faint of heart, nor for the office cubicle. It is a statement worn on the skin, a scent that fills a room and lingers on a scarf for days. If you have been searching for a gourmand oud that refuses to choose between decadence and depth, Insimbi Oudh may be the most interesting release of the year.

Scent Journey

1
Opening 0-30 min

The first thirty minutes are a study in contrast: bittersweet chocolate melting over dry, pencil-shaving cedarwood. The chocolate here is not milk chocolate and it is not a dessert. It is 85 percent cacao, dusty and slightly bitter, and it lands with a soft, powdery sweetness that is immediately cut by the austere grain of cedar. Within minutes a humid, almost fungal truffle note begins to rise from beneath, earthy and faintly savoury, giving the opening an unexpected umami depth that keeps it from ever reading as candy.

2
Heart 1-2 hrs

Between the first and second hour the composition opens its heart and the gourmand elements become genuinely edible. Cardamom adds a cool, green, almost eucalyptus-like spice that lifts the cocoa; bergamot flickers in and out as a bright citrus thread, never dominant, always welcome. Then comes the butter, and this is the moment that divides people. Rich, lactic and faintly salted, it coats the cocoa and the truffle in something that feels closer to cuisine than perfumery. The overall effect is a dark chocolate ganache spiced with cardamom and finished with a shaving of truffle, warm and breathing on the skin.

3
Drydown 4+ hrs

From the fourth hour onward, Insimbi Oudh becomes something else entirely. The gourmand topsoil recedes and the base rises like a tide: oud, smoky and slightly leathery, wrapped in the resinous incense of myrrh and frankincense. Labdanum supplies a sticky, ambered sweetness that echoes the chocolate of the opening without ever repeating it, while osmanthus threads a soft, apricot-tinged floral note through the darkness. Akigalawood gives the whole structure a peppery, almost woody-spicy spine, and geranium adds a green, rose-adjacent freshness that keeps the resins from turning heavy. The final hours are dry, balsamic and quietly animal, a shadow of smoke and resin on warm skin.

Performance Dashboard

Longevity 5.0/5

10 to 12+ hours on skin, and literally days on fabric. As an extrait de parfum with 30 to 50 percent perfume oil, it clings to wool and cashmere with remarkable tenacity.

Projection 5.0/5

Bold, loud trace. Two to three sprays is genuinely sufficient; more than four becomes a decision you make for everyone around you.

Sillage 5.0/5

Strong. This is a scent with a presence, one that leaves a visible trail in a room and announces itself before you do.

Pros & Cons

  • Extraordinary longevity of 10 to 12+ hours with strong sillage
  • A genuinely original gourmand-oud pairing built around chocolate, truffle and butter
  • Rich, high-quality resin base of oud, myrrh, frankincense and labdanum
  • Genuinely unisex composition that flatters both skin types
  • Extrait de parfum concentration at a fair price for the category
  • The truffle and butter notes are polarising and can read as savoury or food-like
  • Projection is loud enough to be inappropriate in close quarters or at work
  • Too heavy for summer and warm-weather wear
  • No credited perfumer, which some collectors consider a transparency issue
  • Limited availability outside specialist retailers

Price & Value

$125-$180
For an extrait de parfum at 30 to 50 percent perfume oil, this sits comfortably below the niche-oud average, where comparable compositions from the big Gulf houses frequently exceed $250 for the same volume.

“Excellent value. Two to three sprays is a full wearing, so a 100ml bottle represents well over a year of regular use.”

Reformulation History

No significant batch variations reported. Insimbi Oudh is a 2026 release produced in relatively small runs, and no reformulation or batch inconsistency has been documented to date.

Final Verdict

Fugazzi Insimbi Oudh is a rare thing: a gourmand oud that earns its decadence. The chocolate, truffle and butter heart is audacious and genuinely delicious, while the resinous base of oud, myrrh and frankincense gives it the gravity to be taken seriously. It is loud, it is long, and it is not for everyone, which is precisely why it deserves a place in any serious cold-weather collection.
