Scent Journey
The first half hour is dominated by balsam fir. It arrives cool, green and sharply resinous, with a faint camphoraceous edge that reads almost like crushed pine needles rather than a Christmas-tree candle. There is no citrus or aromatic lift here — the fir is doing that job itself, and the effect is dry, outdoorsy and slightly austere.
After roughly an hour, the fir softens and the agarwood moves forward. The transition is smooth rather than dramatic: the coniferous greenness thins out and the composition turns smoky, woody and subtly leathery, with an earthy, almost dusty texture underneath. This is where the fragrance feels most like actual oud wood — dry and slightly animalic, but never barnyard or medicinal.
From four hours onward, Agar Ebene becomes a quiet skin scent. What remains is a soft, balsamic woodiness — resin, old timber and a trace of smoke — that sits close to the body. It never turns sweet or powdery, and it fades cleanly rather than collapsing into a generic amber base.
Performance Dashboard
Moderate — roughly 6 to 8 hours on skin, with the final two hours sitting very close.
Moderate to intimate — largely an arm's-length and closer scent.
Moderate — it leaves a discreet trail rather than filling a room.
When to Wear
Pros & Cons
- Genuinely dry, natural-smelling agarwood without the usual sweet or fruity oud clichés
- Restrained, office-safe performance that still lasts a full working day
- Unisex and easy to wear across seasons with adjusted application
- Excellent for layering thanks to its simple two-material structure
- Moderate projection and sillage will disappoint anyone wanting a statement fragrance
- $385 for a 100ml eau de toilette is a significant outlay
- The austere, smoky-resinous profile is polarising for casual wearers
- No top notes means there is little of the bright, sparkling opening some buyers expect
Price & Value
“Expensive per millilitre, but the concentration of genuine agarwood and fir absolutes means a little goes a long way. Buy it for the composition, not for value per dollar.”
Reformulation History
No significant batch variations reported.

Layering Ideas
- Layer with a bright citrus eau de toilette such as Eau d'Hermès to add the sparkling opening Agar Ebene deliberately lacks.
- Pair with a vanilla or amber-dominant fragrance like Ambre Narguilé for a warmer, sweeter winter version.
- Add a single spray of a rose fragrance such as Rose Ikebana to soften the smoke and introduce a floral counterpoint.
- Apply to fabric rather than skin to extend the fir note and slow the transition into the agarwood drydown.
