Scent Journey
The first thirty minutes are all brightness and bite. Grapefruit leads with a pithy, almost bitter sparkle, sharpened by bergamot and sweetened by a rounder orange. Davana threads through immediately — a strange, herbaceous, apricot-adjacent note with a faintly boozy undertow that keeps the citrus from reading as generic. A dusting of cinnamon adds warmth at the edges, so the opening feels less like a fresh-squeezed juice and more like a citrus peel held over a warm stove.
Between one and two hours the rose takes the stage, but it does so gently. This is a dewy, pink-toned rose rather than a dark or jammy one, lifted by green petitgrain and the faintly soapy sweetness of orange blossom. Balsam of Peru begins to seep upward from the base, lending a soft, cinnamon-tinged resinous glow that bridges the floral heart and the woodier foundation. The overall impression is of a rose garden after rain, with something warm and faintly smoky drifting in from a nearby kitchen.
From roughly the fourth hour onward the composition settles into its true character: dry, woody, and skin-close. Cedar provides a clean pencil-shaving dryness, patchouli adds a muted earthy shadow, and guaiac wood contributes a distinctive smoky, tea-like, almost tarry facet that gives the rose its final, slightly melancholic beauty. Musk and woody amber round the edges into a soft, warm hum. The rose never disappears entirely — it simply recedes into the wood, like a memory of the flower rather than the flower itself.
Performance Dashboard
5-6 hours on skin for most wearers
weak to moderate; stays within roughly arm's length
moderate — a scent trail that is present but never imposing
When to Wear
Pros & Cons
- Genuinely unisex rose that never tips into syrup or powder
- Sophisticated grapefruit and davana opening that feels fresh rather than generic
- Dry, smoky guaiac wood drydown gives it an unusual, memorable finish
- Discreet enough for office and daytime wear without being forgettable
- Longevity of 5-6 hours is modest for the price point
- Projection is weak to moderate, so it will not satisfy lovers of big scents
- Not a cold-weather fragrance — it can feel thin in deep winter
- The bitter citrus and smoky wood facets are polarising for some noses
Price & Value
“Fair for the quality of materials and the originality of the composition, but harder to justify if you measure value purely in hours of wear or projection. Buy it for the artistry, not the performance.”
Reformulation History
No significant batch variations reported.

Layering Ideas
- Layer with a clean white musk or skin scent to extend longevity without altering the rose's character.
- Pair with a warm vanilla or tonka base in cooler months to give the dry woods more body.
- Combine with a light cedar or vetiver soliflore to amplify the drydown's smoky, woody spine.
- Avoid layering with heavy oud or amber compositions, which will overwhelm the delicate citrus opening.
