Serge Lutens Feminite du Bois Limited Edition

A Gothic Tapestry of Spiced Cedar and Velvety Plum Reimagined

By Vivir ·
In the hallowed halls of niche perfumery, few names command as much reverence as Feminité du Bois. Originally conceived in 1992 for Shiseido and later brought home to the house of Serge Lutens, this fragrance did the unthinkable: it placed the rugged, masculine soul of Virginia cedar at the heart of a feminine composition. It was a revolution, a breaking of the gendered binary that had governed the industry for decades. To celebrate its enduring legacy, 2022 saw the release of the Feminité du Bois Limited Edition. While the juice remains the same hauntingly beautiful Eau de Parfum we have come to adore, the presentation is a work of art in itself, housed in a bottle that pays homage to the mysterious, almost ecclesiastical nature of the scent. As Isabella Romano, I have revisited this classic in its new limited-edition finery to see if the magic still lingers in the shadows of the cedar forest.

Scent Journey

1
Opening 0-30 min

The first 30 minutes are a masterclass in atmospheric tension. A burst of dark, jammy plum meets the sharp, almost medicinal bite of Virginia cedar. It is dry, spicy, and immediately evocative of a sun-drenched Moroccan woodshop.

2
Heart 1-2 hrs

As the heart emerges after the first hour, the sharpness softens. A dusty violet and a subtle, honeyed ylang-ylang temper the woods, while ginger and clove provide a simmering warmth that feels like a cashmere wrap against the skin.

3
Drydown 4+ hrs

Four hours in, the fragrance settles into a resinous, balsamic embrace. The benzoin and sandalwood create a creamy, skin-scent finish that is less about projection and more about an intimate, lingering warmth.
