Zara Olfactive N°01 - Venice attempts to capture that elusive moment, and remarkably, it succeeds with a disarming charm that belies its modest price tag.

Created in collaboration with the legendary Jo Malone, this 2021 release is the first in Zara’s Olfactive series—a collection intended to evoke specific cities through scent. Venice, with its labyrinth of canals and romantic decay, is a bold choice. The fragrance does not aim for the stately grandeur of a palazzo or the deep, dark mystery of a gondola ride at midnight. Instead, it bottles the effervescent joy of a morning stroll along the Rialto market, where baskets of citrus and berries tumble into the sunlight.

From the first spritz, you are greeted by a burst of bright bergamot, a note that Malone has wielded masterfully across her career. It is not the sharp, soapy bergamot of some traditional colognes, but a softer, almost juicy rendition that feels like biting into a ripe slice of fruit. The heart unfurls with red berries—think of wild strawberries and raspberries warmed by the sun—before settling into a surprising base of myrrh, which adds a resinous, slightly smoky anchor that keeps the composition from floating away entirely.
