Pros & Cons

  • I'm obsessed with the smell. This shine on a very hot weather.
  • Lovely initially earthy and dirt-like, and later smoky incense with a gorgeous woody accord, has a mild sweet and tart apple that's surprisingly realistic.
  • By far the most skillfully blended of Zoologist's fragrances.
  • This may be my favorite fragrance from Zoologist. It's complex, it's photorealistic plant life.
  • My favorite interpretation of hinoki so far. The olibanum here is gorgeous.
  • One of Zoologist's better fragrances, and the best of the 'Macaque' series... The opening apple notes are fresh and light -- but never intrusive -- and drydown further mellows the fragrance into pleasing basenotes. This has decent sillage.
  • My favorite interpretation of hinoki so far. The olibanum here is gorgeous, reminiscent of Amouage so the quality is high. The apple is mild, hovering under the hinoki and olibanum... this blows the overly astringent Hinoki & Cedarwood from Jo Malone completely out of the water.
  • On my skin, Macaque is a fruity, tart, incense fragrance. I get notes of red apples at the top, hinoki at the heart and incense at the base... Scent: 8 Longevity: 10 hrs Projection: 7
  • It's beautiful, a bit of tart apple but not overly sweet. The sweetness that does exist quickly evaporates to a full Juniper. This is a slightly masculine but easily unisex fragrance that I will wear again.
  • Good god where is the apple?!?
  • Smells like a generic musk perfume sprinkled with a generic fruity note.
  • It’s boring, two-dimensional and utterly generic.
  • This one however smells more like a nice room candle than a perfume.
  • I really didn’t like it. At all. One whiff and I gagged.
  • The apple accord is very nice... but it feels incomplete and incongruous, empty and too simplistic, and, generally speaking, boring.
  • It's boring, two-dimensional and utterly generic. While I'm not a fan of every Zoologist fragrance, I can still see the beauty in them... This one on the other hand, I see nothing.
  • All of the notes are right up my alley and it actually does smell like these notes, but when they are put together for some reason it smells off. Like a super sharp citrus fruit that went bad mixed with super strong cleaner.
