Kayali Invite Only Amber | Pheromone Perfume — Kayali Invite Only Amber | 23 Review: Sweet Tobacco Amber

Kayali's 2021 tobacco-amber gourmand — and the 'pheromone' buzz around it.

By Vivir · · Updated
Kayali Invite Only Amber | 23 arrived in 2021 as part of the Dubai-born house's core line, and it has since become one of the brand's most discussed cold-weather releases. Composed by Ilias Ermenidis with dsm-firmenich, it is a unisex Oriental Spicy EDP built around tobacco leaf, sour cherry, honey and a deep amber-oud base. It is not a shy fragrance. This review covers the full note pyramid, how the scent evolves from first spray to drydown, realistic performance expectations, season and occasion fit, pricing across sizes, and how it stacks up against Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille, Guerlain Tobacco Honey and other benchmarks in the sweet tobacco-amber category. We also address the 'pheromone perfume' search term that frequently leads shoppers to this bottle — and explain why that label is a search habit rather than an official brand claim. If you have been looking for a dense, sweet-spicy amber that performs well above its price bracket, this one deserves a serious look. If you prefer clean, fresh or understated fragrances, it is almost certainly not for you.

Scent Journey

1
Opening 0-30 min

The first spray is loud and immediately edible. Tobacco leaf leads, but it arrives wrapped in sour cherry, honey, chocolate and hazelnut — a combination that reads like a liqueur-filled chocolate cherry. The sour cherry is the critical detail: it is tart rather than syrupy, which keeps the opening from collapsing into pure dessert. Expect the first fifteen minutes to be the most aggressive phase of the wear.

2
Heart 1-2 hrs

As the gourmand top settles, the heart takes over: Ceylon cinnamon, May rose, Damask rose and a green citrus leaf accent. Cinnamon is the dominant player — warm, dry and slightly woody rather than candy-like. The two roses add a soft, faintly powdery floral texture that lifts the composition off the skin and prevents it from becoming a solid block of sweetness. This is the most balanced stage of the wear.

3
Drydown 4+ hrs

The base is where Invite Only Amber | 23 earns its name. Amber and oud form the spine, supported by vanilla, benzoin, sandalwood, patchouli, musk and cypriol oil (nagarmotha). The result is a smooth, resinous amber with a dusty-woody edge from the cypriol and patchouli. The sweetness persists but becomes rounder and more vanillic. On skin and on clothing the drydown can remain detectable many hours after the heart has faded — some wearers report picking it up roughly 24 hours later.

Performance Dashboard

Longevity 5.0/5

8-12+ hours on skin, with wearers reporting it detectable roughly 24 hours later on skin and fabric.

Projection 4.0/5

Strong to very strong. Multiple sources advise caution against overspraying — two to three sprays is a full wearing.

Sillage 5.0/5

Heavy. It leaves a pronounced scent trail and lingers in a room after the wearer has left.

Pros & Cons

  • Exceptional longevity and projection for the price bracket
  • Complex, well-structured note pyramid with a distinctive sour-cherry opening
  • Genuinely unisex composition
  • Strong value against designer and niche sweet tobaccos
  • Available in a 10ml travel size for low-risk testing
  • Can be overwhelming in warm weather or enclosed spaces
  • Sweetness and heavy sillage are polarising
  • Not office-friendly for most workplaces
  • The gourmand opening may read as too edible for some tastes

Price & Value

€32–€130
The 100ml bottle at €130 works out considerably cheaper per millilitre than the designer and niche sweet tobaccos it is most often compared to, and the 10ml at €32 makes testing inexpensive.

“Strong value. Performance is the headline — this behaves like a fragrance costing two to three times as much.”

Reformulation History

Final Verdict

Kayali Invite Only Amber | 23 is one of the strongest performers in the Kayali line-up and a genuinely competitive entry in the sweet tobacco-amber category. It is dense, sweet and unmistakably cold-weather, and it delivers performance that normally costs far more. Buy it if you love gourmand ambers; skip it if you want something quiet, fresh or office-safe.
