Lattafa Bade e Al Oud Amethyst Fusion: A Boozy Amber Review

Amaretto, rum and vanilla collide in Lattafa's most decadent amber yet.

By Vivir ·
There is a specific kind of magic that happens in Middle Eastern perfumery when the weather turns. The oud is still there, the resins are still there, the amber is still doing its slow, golden work — but somewhere in the mix, somebody has decided to pour a shot of amaretto over the whole thing and call it a night. That, in essence, is Lattafa Bade e Al Oud Amethyst Fusion: a fragrance that reads less like a traditional oud and more like the dessert course of one. The Bade e Al Oud line has always been Lattafa's most interesting playground. It is the house's oud-adjacent sub-brand, the place where it experiments with western gourmand codes without abandoning the resinous, syrupy Middle Eastern backbone that made its reputation. Amethyst Fusion arrives in that lineage with a brief that is almost aggressively indulgent: amaretto and rum up top, caramel and amber in the heart, vanilla and benzoin at the base. It is a fragrance built out of dessert components, assembled with a perfumer's sense of structure. What makes it culturally interesting is timing. The boozy-gourmand-amber genre has been the defining commercial story of the last several years — the success of spiced, liqueur-soaked ambers at the designer and niche level created an appetite that the Gulf houses have been feeding with remarkable efficiency. Amethyst Fusion is a product of that appetite, and at $35 to $50 for 100ml of EDP, it is also a pointed argument about what luxury is actually supposed to cost.

Scent Journey

1
Opening 0-30 min

The first thirty minutes are the loudest and the most literal. Amaretto leads — that unmistakable marzipan-and-bitter-almond signature, boozy and slightly sharp at the edges. Rum arrives right behind it, adding a warm alcoholic heat that makes the opening feel like a glass left on a bar rather than a perfume. Mandarin is the quiet third player, a bright citrus flicker that keeps the whole thing from collapsing into syrup in the first minute. It is sweet, it is edible, and it is unmistakably a statement.

2
Heart 1-2 hrs

By the one-to-two-hour mark the liqueur burns off and the fragrance settles into its true character: amber and caramel wrapped around a patchouli that is doing structural work rather than shouting. The amber here is warm and resinous rather than sharp, and the caramel gives it a rounded, almost burnt-sugar depth. Patchouli reads as earthy and slightly woody, and it is the single most important element in the composition — without it, this would be pure candy; with it, there is a shadow under the sweetness that gives the fragrance somewhere to go.

3
Drydown 4+ hrs

From roughly the fourth hour onward, Amethyst Fusion becomes a skin scent in the best sense. Vanilla and benzoin take over, and the benzoin is what separates this from a hundred other vanilla ambers — it brings a balsamic, almost church-incense warmth with a faintly powdery finish. Sandalwood provides a creamy, slightly dry base that keeps the vanilla from turning cloying. The final hours are soft, intimate and sweet, closer to a scented cashmere scarf than a perfume.

Performance Dashboard

Longevity 4.0/5

Full day wear, comfortably 8+ hours on skin, with the base notes lingering well past that on fabric.

Projection 3.0/5

Roughly 3-4 hours of genuinely noticeable projection at arm's length before it pulls inward.

Sillage 3.0/5

Moderate. It leaves a clear trail for the first few hours and then settles close, which suits the genre well.

Pros & Cons

  • Rich, layered gourmand-amber composition that punches far above its price
  • Full-day longevity of 8+ hours with a soft, wearable drydown
  • Amaretto and rum opening is distinctive and instantly recognizable
  • Excellent value at $35-$50 for 100ml of EDP
  • Unisex in practice — the sweetness is balanced by patchouli and sandalwood
  • Moderate projection only; not a room-filler after the first few hours
  • Sweetness will be too much for anyone who dislikes gourmands
  • Strictly a cold-weather fragrance — it can turn heavy in heat
  • Perfumer is uncredited, so there is little transparency about authorship
  • Availability and pricing fluctuate depending on the retailer and region

Price & Value

$35-$50
Exceptional. This is a 100ml EDP with the density and structure of fragrances costing three to five times as much.

“One of the strongest value propositions in the current amber-gourmand market. Even at the top of its price band, Amethyst Fusion costs less than a single 10ml travel spray from most niche houses.”

Reformulation History

No significant batch variations reported. As with most Lattafa releases, minor differences in maceration time can affect the first few wears, and letting a new bottle rest for two to four weeks typically deepens the amber and caramel facets.

Final Verdict

Lattafa Bade e Al Oud Amethyst Fusion is a confident, well-built boozy amber that understands exactly what it is: a warm, edible, slightly hedonistic cold-weather fragrance at a price that makes the whole exercise feel almost unfair. It is not subtle, it is not versatile, and it is not trying to be — but for date nights, winter evenings and anyone who wants to smell like the best dessert on the table, it delivers far more than its price tag suggests.
