Guerlain Florabloom Absolu Review: A Nocturnal Floral

Delphine Jelk leads the superbloom into darkness — tuberose, coconut, and smoky incense.

By Vivir · · Updated
There is a moment in every great garden when the light fails and the flowers change character. What was bright and legible by day becomes something stranger, heavier, more secretive after dusk — petals that seemed innocent at noon turn narcotic, and the air holds sweetness the way a room holds candle smoke. Guerlain understands this transition better than almost any house in perfumery, and with Florabloom Absolu — a 2025 addition to the Absolus Allegoria collection — they have taken one of their most joyful floral ideas and led it gently, deliberately, into the night. Florabloom Absolu is not a lazy flanker. It is a reimagining. The same "superbloom" conceit that animated the original Florabloom — a desert-after-rain explosion of petals and fruit — is here rendered in deeper, smokier, more resinous tones. Where the original was a sunlit meadow, the Absolu is a garden at midnight: tuberose unfurling in the dark, coconut turning creamy and almost narcotic, and a base of frankincense, moss, patchouli and sandalwood lending a solemn, incense-lit gravity that the original never reached for. Composed by Delphine Jelk, Guerlain's in-house perfumer, Florabloom Absolu arrives in 2025 as an Eau de Parfum in 75ml (€138) and 125ml (€190) flacons. It is unisex in spirit, though its opulent white florals and honeyed fruit will speak most directly to those who love a bold, sensual, evening-leaning signature. It is the kind of fragrance that asks you to slow down — to sit with it, to let it unfold, and to accept that the most beautiful flowers are rarely the ones that bloom at noon.

Scent Journey

1
Opening 0-30 min

The first thirty minutes are a tropical flare: mandarin's bright, slightly bitter zest cuts through a lush coconut accord that reads more like fresh-pressed cream than suntan oil. Mango arrives syrupy and golden, ripe to the point of dripping, and the whole opening has the mouth-watering quality of fruit warmed in the sun. It is the most extroverted, most obviously 'pretty' phase of the fragrance — and it lasts just long enough to disarm you.

2
Heart 1-2 hrs

Between one and two hours, the heart takes over and the character shifts decisively. Tuberose is the protagonist here — buttery, slightly camphoraceous, unmistakably fleshy — and it is amplified by ylang-ylang's banana-and-jasmine richness. Mirabilis, the four-o'clock flower that famously blooms only after sunset, adds a green, faintly peppery freshness that keeps the white florals from turning cloying. A rose note threads through as a soft, velvety counterweight. This is the fragrance at its most sensual and most Guerlain.

3
Drydown 4+ hrs

From roughly the fourth hour onward, the composition settles into its true signature: a smoky, earthy, resinous bed of frankincense and moss, with patchouli lending a dark chocolate-adjacent depth and sandalwood smoothing everything into a creamy, skin-close warmth. The tropical fruit has receded almost entirely; what remains is a shadowed, incense-tinged floral that feels ancient and quietly luxurious. It lingers on fabric for far longer than on skin.

Pros & Cons

  • A genuinely original reinterpretation rather than a diluted flanker
  • Excellent tuberose and coconut pairing — creamy without being gourmand
  • Sophisticated smoky-incense base adds depth and longevity
  • Unisex in spirit and elegant in presentation
  • Available in two useful sizes at fair luxury pricing
  • Sweetness in the opening may be too much for some noses
  • Moderate projection means it stays relatively close to the skin
  • Not a warm-weather casual scent — it wants cool air and evening hours
  • The frankincense-moss base can read austere to those expecting pure florals

Price & Value

$150-$210 (€138-€190)
Positioned at the upper end of the Aqua/Absolus Allegoria bracket, which is fair for a 2025 EDP with this level of material quality and complexity.

“Not a bargain, but a justified one. The 125ml flacon offers the better cost-per-milliliter for anyone who plans to wear it as a seasonal signature rather than a curiosity.”

Reformulation History

No significant batch variations reported for this 2025 release. As with all Guerlain compositions, expect minor differences between early production runs and later ones, particularly in the intensity of the frankincense note.

Final Verdict

Guerlain Florabloom Absolu is one of the more thoughtful flankers to emerge from the Absolus Allegoria line — a nocturnal, incense-lit reinterpretation of the original's superbloom that earns its 'Absolu' title. Delphine Jelk has balanced tropical fruit, opulent tuberose and a smoky resinous base with real skill, producing a fragrance that is sensual, wearable and quietly original. It is not for every mood or every season, but for autumn evenings and intimate occasions it is close to sublime.
