Scent Journey
The first thirty minutes belong to wormwood and artemisia — a bitter, camphoraceous, almost absinthe-like blast that reads green rather than sweet. Lavender arrives quickly behind it, cool and herbaceous rather than soapy, giving the opening the unmistakable signature of a traditional barbershop fougère stripped of its powder. There is a faintly medicinal, crushed-leaf quality here that will divide wearers immediately: those who love bitter herbal accords will find it bracing; those who do not will find it confrontational.
Between one and two hours, the composition broadens considerably. A restrained jasmine heart — more textural than floral, contributing a soft, slightly waxy roundness — keeps the herbs from tipping into pure aromatherapy territory. The coniferous elements begin to assert themselves: fir and juniper emerge as a cool, resinous greenness that feels like walking into a pine stand after rain. The bitterness of the opening recedes but never disappears; it simply becomes structural, the armature on which the rest of the fragrance hangs.
From roughly the fourth hour onward, Viride settles into a dry, woody, faintly smoky base. Cedar provides the spine, clean and pencil-shaving sharp, while the tobacco note is subtle and unsweetened — closer to the smell of a cold pipe than to a lit cigar. A soft, skin-like musk holds everything together without adding warmth or sweetness. The final impression is of dry wood, cold moss, and the ghost of lavender on fabric: austere, elegant, and remarkably persistent.
Performance Dashboard
8-10 hours on skin, with the base lingering noticeably longer on fabric. Reviewers consistently describe Viride as a long-lasting composition, particularly for a green aromatic.
Strong, roughly arm's length for the first several hours before settling closer to the skin. Two to three sprays are ample.
Strong. Viride leaves a clearly perceptible trail without becoming oppressive, though it should be applied sparingly in enclosed spaces.
When to Wear
Pros & Cons
- A genuinely original green fougère that refuses the sweet, amber-laden conventions of the genre
- Excellent longevity of roughly 8-10 hours with strong projection and sillage
- More versatile than its intensity suggests — entirely wearable to an office in measured doses
- High-quality raw-material impression, with no harsh synthetic edge in the drydown
- Genuinely unisex, sitting comfortably on a wide range of skin types
- The bitter, camphoraceous opening is deeply divisive and demands commitment
- Restricted appeal — this is a fragrance for herbal and coniferous loyalists, not generalists
- Premium pricing for a 100ml bottle, with limited discount availability in most markets
- Can feel heavy or cloying in high summer heat and humidity, despite being labeled a fresh scent
Price & Value
“Fair value for a 100ml extrait-strength-adjacent EDP with 8-10 hour longevity and a genuinely distinctive composition. Anyone who loves green fougères will find the cost per wear reasonable; anyone ambivalent about bitter herbals should sample extensively before committing.”
Reformulation History
No significant batch variations have been widely reported for Viride. As with all Orto Parisi releases, the house maintains a small, artisanal production scale, and the fragrance has not been subject to the high-profile reformulation controversies that affect many mass-market designer releases. Minor variations in color and intensity between batches are possible given the natural raw materials involved, but no systematic divergence has been documented by the community.

Layering Ideas
- A single spray of Orto Parisi Megamare beneath Viride introduces a saline, aquatic brightness that sharpens the herbal opening and extends the coniferous drydown.
- Layer with a trace of Orto Parisi Boccanera to push Viride toward a darker, smoky-woody register suited to evening wear.
- Pair with an unsweetened vetiver or dry cedar solinote to reinforce the base without disturbing the bitter architecture.
- Avoid layering with sweet amber, vanilla, or gourmand bases — they flatten the composition's carefully maintained bitterness and blur its structure.
